I have recently been invited onto a diverse team of creatives creating a brand new NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) game. The project is for release on actual NES cartridges.
The game is currently in development. My role is as a level design pixel artist, creating original in-game backgrounds for various levels/areas. Here are some sneak-peek screenshot samples of the pixel art. We'll see what is used in-game as things develop, cartridge memory considerations taken into account. I created each tile/mega tile from scratch.
A boss dragon, encased in a mountain, under the control of a mage...
Sample screen created from a deep forest tileset.
A foreboding gate: who dareth enter its abysmal maw?
Put on some calypso music for this beach-side area. What's up with that urchin up on the knoll?!
A mysterious ship glides along the coast...
A skeletal pterodactyl, cauldrons and an elongated skull nearby a river of boiling magma.
A strange road entrance flanked by statues... looks as if Scorpion left a few spears laying around near the tar pit.
